Q & A with Main Stars from ‘The Witches’

By Erica Dick

Ava Vinton ’20 and Ella Rose Charles ’20 play the two main roles in Archer’s Middle School play, “The Witches.” The Oracle interviewed Vinton and Charles via email about their preparation for the play and what it was like to be in the cast.

Is this the first play you’ve been in?

AV: This is not the first play I have been in before, but it is the first time I have played a lead and also the first time I have done a school play (or more accurately, one that is not mandatory)

EC:  This is not the first play I have been in, I love theatre and have been acting for a long time

What’s it like to be one of the main parts?

AV: Being a lead can be stressful at times because there is a lot of memorizing involved but it is incredibly fun and worth it to really experiment with a character and act with my peers.

EC: It’s really exciting to be a lead because I have an awesome character, and I get to do so many interesting things in every scene. I love working with my cast, and laughing with my scene partners. I have so much fun!

What do you like most about this play?

AV: My favorite thing about this play is seeing all of the different aspects (lighting, sound, all of the costumes, etc.) come together with what we have been doing. My favorite scene is the one at the end of Act II with all of the witches chanting and dancing and having fun on stage.

EC: I really love how everyone in the play is like a little family. We have grown closer, and enjoyed all crazy personalities of the characters we are playing

What was the hardest thing about putting it together?

AV: The hardest thing about putting the play together was transitioning from the art room to the black box and applying the entrances and exits we learned in the beginning.

EC: I really love how everyone in the play is like a little family. We have grown closer, and enjoyed all crazy personalities of the characters we are playing

Is there anything important people should know when they’re watching the play?

AV: The most important thing to know about this play is that the cast has worked very hard for people to enjoy watching it. I hope you enjoy being an audience member just as we are enjoying it on stage!

EC: When people are watching the play the should just enjoy it! It was so fun practicing for the play, and we all are so excited to show you our work!
