Weeks of hard training came to an end for Archer’s Middle School cross country team on Oct. 30.
The Middle School competed in their final meet at Will Rogers State Park in Pacific Palisades. The girls competed against three other schools—Windward, Crossroads, and Westchester Lutheran. In total, 55 runners competed in the race. Windward closed its season in first place with a total of 36 points, and Archer’s Middle School was only one point away at 37 points. Crossroads finished with 74 points, and Westchester Lutheran Middle School finished with 89 points.
Kennedy Lyons ’19 said that joining cross country was a good way for her to train for track: “We had a lot of teamwork and always pushed hard.” She plans to join the team again next year.
“The girls did great this season,” says Coach Amelia Mathis. “The theme has been grit, and I feel as though they have demonstrated every last bit of it! They fought and fought ’til the very end only losing by one point to Windward. Every girl on the team had a personal record shaving their time by a minute or more. The girls competed not only at meets but as training as well trying to keep up with the Upper School.”
Ten runners competed on the team, and Mathis hopes that more will come out next year to give it a try.
