Students Follow Vegetarian, Pescatarian Diets, Survey Shows

By Madison Richardson

The Oracle conducted a survey to find out how many Archer girls identify as vegetarians, vegans, or pescatarians.

According to the survey, 68 percent of Archer girls are meat-eaters, 15 percent are vegetarian, and 13 percent are pescatarians. Only 4 percent are vegans. Additionally, 44 percent of the girls who do not eat meat or fish have been vegetarians/vegans for more than five years.

A study published by the Vegetarian Times revealed that 3.2 percent of adults in the United States identify as vegetarians. Some of the reasons that teenagers choose to follow a vegetarian-based diet include personal food dislikes and concerns about animal rights.
