Varsity Soccer advanced to the Final Four after a very intense, soggy playoff game on Feb. 28.

Friday’s quarter final game started with nervous players and anxious fans. Many of Archer’s dedicated teachers and students came out to Santa Monica College field to watch Archer’s Varsity Soccer team win their quarter final game.

Rain came early in the first half but that didn’t stop our fearless team from giving it everything they had. At halftime, lightning and thunder threatened the game. After many stretched out minutes of wondering what was happening, the officials called the game and Archer was the winner 1-0, the only goal of the game scored by freshman Liadan Soloman ‘17.

When asked how they pushed themselves to make it this far, Hillary O’Connor ‘15 commented, “We are a very young team and we outplayed a lot of our competition but our spirit, heart, and dedication to the team really helped us when we were down”.

This was the first time Archer soccer had ever advanced to the final four CIF semi-finals. The team was “extremely strong defensively, which really helped us play against teams that were powerful,” said O’Connor.

On Tuesday, Mar. 4, the team advanced to the Final Four CIF semi-final game. After becoming league champions, Archer fought hard in the semi-finals game. Despite their efforts, they lost 1-0 to St. Monica.

“Tuesday’s Semi-Final match was a battle, and although we came up short, I am proud of and celebrate the new heights we reached as a team this season” comments Head Coach, Kim Smith.

Although it did not end up the way that they were hoping they still made Archer soccer history. “This is the bravest team I’ve ever coached” Coach Smith said, smiling.
