“Welcome to my blog. Here you can find posts about any and everything that sparks my interest.” These are the opening lines on the home page of senior Isabella Veckerelli’s recently launched online blog, “Isabella’s World.” Veckerelli started her lifestyle blog, where she expresses her thoughts and opinions on various topics ranging from fashion to social media, earlier this year.
Veckerelli posts videos, images, journal entries and more on “Isabella’s World,” and she said her current favorite blog post is a piece commenting on the power of a mini skirt — her favorite clothing item. In this post, Veckerelli discussed the history of mini skirts, described her relationship to the piece of clothing and provided readers with different ways they can style the staple piece.
The Oracle sat down with Veckerelli to discuss her blog and the inspiration behind her starting it.
When and why did you start your blog?
Isabella Veckerelli [IV]: I found that I was talking to my friends a lot and that had a lot of thoughts that I wanted to express, but a lot of my friends were tired of me hearing me ramble about my thoughts and my interests and stuff, so I thought that I would try writing it down because I already write in a journal sometimes. I thought I would publish some of the ideas that I have. And also, last year in English kind of inspired me to start writing more. On my blog, I published some pieces that I made in last year’s English class because the class really inspired me. I had never really liked writing before, besides diary entries and stuff like that, but I started to really like writing because of the way Mr. Wogensen taught it. He taught us more about the creative side of writing, which I really enjoyed. I just thought I would share my ideas with the world, and I also love fashion, so I post a lot of outfit inspiration and fashion content.
Can you tell the readers about the layout of your blog?
[IV]: I do a song of the month every month and then a woman of the week. So, every week, I highlight a new celebrity or influential woman in history. And then I do a new blog post whenever I have an idea — there’s no set time when I post. Right now, I have four articles, but I think I’m going to post my next one in a week. My main thing is my blog, and then I have an intro video, an About Me section and some outfit ideas and stuff like that.
What’s your favorite part about your blog?
[IV]: I want to say the outfit styling. I have a blog post where I show how to style mini skirts, which are my favorite clothing pieces. The outfit styling is also my favorite part because I really like putting outfits together, and then I also love just the designing of the actual page. It took a long time for me to design because I was very particular about how I wanted it to look, but that was definitely a really fun part of the process, and I really enjoyed it.
Do you have advice or suggestions for anyone who’s interested in starting a blog?
[IV]: I’d honestly say to just do it. I mean, obviously it’s not as simple as that, but if you have an idea and you want to share it with people, just go ahead and do it. Don’t be scared, and don’t take the blog writing so seriously, because it doesn’t have to be in essay format and doesn’t have to be structured like an English essay or super proper. It can just be a normal journal entry or something like that. So if you’re inspired to do it, I’d say just go for it, and, obviously, it’ll improve over time, but don’t let being afraid of taking the risk stop you.
