Jacquelyn Klein ’15 captures her fascination with Greek and Roman mythology in one of her self-portraits in her art gallery. Connections between Greek and Roman mythology, fairytales and real life are common themes in Klein’s work.

Pan, the Greek god of the wild, lounges with ethereal companions in Yosemite National Park. Snow White is drunkenly draped on a day bed after downing the forbidden apple martini.

These images are part of Jacquelyn Klein’s ’15 art show displayed in the upstairs art gallery hallway. The collection features pieces Klein made for her AP Studio Art concentration last year, as well as pieces she has recently created.

“I took different time periods and social issues and I paired them with a fairytale that I saw some parallels with,” Klein said.

According to Klein, the collection as a whole shares no common theme or message.

Her artistic process first begins by thinking of the context or subject matter of the piece, followed by quick sketches to plan out the composition of the artwork.

“After that I may try out some colors, just think about what I want the whole thing to look like,” Klein said, “and then I’ll start from the beginning again on a big piece of paper and then draw it out and paint.”

Klein will be attending Columbia University in the fall, and although she will major in something business related, Klein hopes to minor in Visual Arts.

“I eventually want to become some kind of art director,” she said.
