Logan Connors ‘17 has been riding horses since she was two years old. Now in her fifth year on the Archer equestrian team, she is this year’s captain. The Oracle sat down with Connors to learn more about her experience with the team and her goals for the season.

How did you get started in equestrian? How long have you been riding?

Logan Connors [LC]:  I’ve been a part of the equestrian team at Archer since I was in the seventh grade, but I’ve been riding for about 11 years…On my dad’s side of the family, they all have horses. I grew up riding. When I was two, I would ride my grandma’s horses. It’s just always been a part of my life.

What do you love about equestrian?

LC: It’s a safe space for me. That hour to hour and a half where I’m riding is a stress reliever. I don’t have to worry about anything else. I have a strong connection with my horse, Bodesso.

Would you say there’s still a sense of team even though the sport is so individualized?

LC: Yes. Equestrian’s [can be] really individualized sport because everyone practices outside [of Archer] with their own trainers, but we try to meet a few times. At the shows, we have a tent next to all the other schools and we try to watch each other [compete]. There are four shows throughout the year. For the younger girls, I try to [help the younger girls] go and see them. There’s a few eighth graders or seventh graders that we want to make feel more connected to the team.

What are your goals this year as captain?

LC: I want us all as a team to have a connection and really support each other. Even though we don’t practice together, we can still support each other and watch each other [at] shows.
