Photo Gallery: The Dogs of Archer

Everyone knows that dogs are a big part of the culture at Archer, but did you know that this tradition dates back to the founding of the school? Founder Dr. Diana Meehan first introduced the practice of teachers bringing their dogs to school because she herself loves dogs. According to Ms. Servello, dogs are as much of a part of the Archer lifestyle as the uniform is.

Below are just a few of the many dogs on campus with of course, their wonderful owners that we know as our teachers! Click on an image to begin the slideshow.

Ms. Ferri’s dog Sasha is a pit bull mix, and possibly part greyhound. She will be 6 years old in March. Ms. Ferri says that “Sasha is a very sweet and well behaved dog. She loves getting attention from all the girls and seeing her best friend Cleo.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16
Ms. Dahlin’s dog Cleo (short for Cleopatra) is a 1-year-old Bichon Frise-poodle mix. Ms. Dahlin says, “She is pure unadulterated love.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16
Mr. Callender’s dog Winnie is a 5-year-old corgi-Jack Russell mix. Mr. Callender says, “Winnie is a high-energy but very sweet dog who loves visiting Archer. Her hobbies include chasing squirrels, staring out windows, and barking at Nelson.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16
Mr. London’s dog Nelson is a 3-year-old lab/pit bull mix. Mr. London says, “Nelson is weird and overly affectionate.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16
Ms. Taylor’s dog Kaylee is a 3 and a half-year-old German Shepherd. She has been coming to Archer since she was 5 months old. Ms. Taylor says that “Kaylee thinks everyone is her best friend. She’s smart, sweet, and loves belly rubs from her Archer girls.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16

Mr. In’s 3-year-old beagle-cocker spaniel mix Ziggy is a favorite on campus. When asked to describe Ziggy, Mr. In said vaguely with a smile on his face, “He’s fooling you all.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16
According to Ms. Lancaster, her 3-year-old Collie Gus is “smart and loves working at Archer. His favorite dog is Nelson.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16
Ms. Servello’s dog Max (short for Maximus) is a 13-year-old pug. According to Ms. Servello, “Max is an old soul. He walks around campus like he owns the place and is completely treat obsessed.” Photographer: Angelica Bailon
Mr. Donnel’s dog Lucy is a 12 and a half-year-old Golden Retriever. Mr. Donnel says that Lucy has “reached a state of transcendental enlightenment. I think she knows the meaning of life.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16
Ms. Pav’s dog Jinx is a 13-year-old Australian Shepherd. She says, “he’s a patient, jolly, handsome gentleman. All of the girl dogs have crushes on him.” Photographer: Syd Stone ’16

Syd Stone graduated in 2016. She became the Voices Editor and the Social Media Manager during the 2013-2014 school year and continued in that position in 2014-2015. She served as the Co-Editor-In-Chief of the Oracle with Sarah Wagner during her senior year. She played cello in the Upper School Orchestra, was a member of the Honor Education Council and was the senior chair of the Ambassador Leadership Team. She attended the journalism institute for high school seniors at Northwestern University, where she went on to pursue a journalism major in college.

Syd, that picture of Kaylee and me has become my favorite. This was a great idea for a gallery, and I love that you included the teachers as well as our cute pooches.
