Photo Gallery: My favorite servery snacks

By Alexis David, Columnist

During almost every lunch, US-FLX Block, mentorship period or even passing period, you are bound to see plenty of people at the servery. The servery, Archer’s kitchen and store, provides students with delicious hot breakfast and lunch options, and is a place where they can quickly grab snacks throughout the day.

Hungry? Go to the servery. Thirsty? Go to the servery. Tired? Go to the servery. Bored? Go to the servery. Lazy — you get the point.

The servery is always busy at lunch time, with lines going all the way down the dining hall. This is because it has just about everything you can imagine: a wide variety of drinks that range from plain waters to various kinds of milk, pre-blended smoothies and plenty of different snack options, including chips, fruit, cookies and candy, to satisfy any student’s craving. If it’s warm outside, grab a refreshing smoothie or an ice cream bar. If it’s cold, enjoy the hot food bar or even use the toaster to heat up a bagel.

The Archer School for Girls has long been nicknamed the “Archer School for Food,” and the nickname is so popular that an Urban Dictionary page was created in honor of it. So, it makes sense that the servery is so popular among students. Although some may complain about the servery prices, we all know that the servery is simply inescapable.

Every Archer student has their favorite servery items, whether they are sour candy, chips, cereal, fruit or even a smoothie. Here are mine:

  • If you’re like me, you’re a walking zombie in the morning. The chocolate brownie Clif bar provides me with enough energy to get the day going and the 10g of protein helps me feel like I’m starting the day off on the right foot.

  • These sour delights are not for the faint of heart. As soon as they land on your tongue, your tastebuds explode with a burst of sour that can have even the strongest tastebuds wincing. As a sour-lover, these are my favorite treat for when I just want a little boost.

  • Anybody who knows me knows that I love sparkling water. I probably drink about three cans a day. Bubly has the perfect amount of bubbles to have your tongue singing, and the hints of fruit shining through make the water a bit more exciting. Bubly water is refreshing and is definitely the best drink to bring to your next class.

  • This M&M cookie is just too good: it’s addicting. I don’t even know how to describe the meld of flavors that hit my tongue when I take a bite out of this cookie. The cookie itself isn’t too sweet, actually being kind of salty, allowing the M&M’s to take over and provide the absolute best combination of sweet and salty.

  • For the hot weather, which feels like almost every day in Los Angeles, these are the best treat to cool you down. These grapes are so deliciously sweet, but also have that same refreshing fruity flavor I love. If you want a healthier alternative to ice cream, these grapes are a perfect treat to cool you down.

  • For the days when you just want something super salty with a hint of spice, Miss Vickie’s jalapeño chips are the best. The jalapeño flavor perfectly offsets the saltiness of the chips to make for the best afternoon pick me up. Miss Vickie’s salt and vinegar chips are equally as delicious, with the perfect combo of salty and sour. As already stated, I love sour things, so the hint of sour coming from the vinegar just hits the spot.
