Along with many others, I’ve been in a recent Go Greek frenzy. Whether it’s a post-practice protein-filled treat or a quick grab-and-go breakfast, it never fails to satisfy my sweet tooth. Go Greek Yogurt has been a staple for many Greek yogurt lovers around Los Angeles, and the adoration isn’t just for delicious yogurt — it’s the satisfaction of enjoying a sweet and filling dessert in a friendly, welcoming environment.
Established in 2012, Go Greek is an authentic Greek yogurt bar and cafe inspired by Greek culture and cuisine. Their ingredients are sourced straight from Europe, which gives customers an authentic experience. There are three locations in LA: one in the heart of Beverly Hills, one in Studio City and a Santa Monica location that looks right out to the ocean just off the bluffs.
As I walked up to Go Greek, I could smell the sour, yet sweet, scent of Greek yogurt, which only intensified as I drew closer. The overwhelming number of people crammed into the relatively small yogurt bar made me more eager to try my first bite.
After grabbing my bowl, I approached the dispensers. With numerous recommendations from my friends for simple plain tart, I gave in. I cranked the handle down and watched the yogurt swirl from the dispenser.
Looking at the numerous toppings was overwhelming in the best way possible. I gravitated towards the fruit section and picked my new favorite mixture: raspberries, chia seeds, cacao nibs and granola.
While I deeply enjoyed my now go-to combo, I do still have two honorable mentions: chocolate and mixed berry. Mixed berry is a mixture of subtle summer berries and sour Greek yogurt. Its mauve color only added to the experience. It was quite tart, but it really satisfied my frozen yogurt craving. The chocolate, while also tart, was rich, and the tangy chocolate flavor shown through. Its thick texture and creamy consistency were incredible.
The hustle and bustle of Go Greek doesn’t give much time to interact with the employees unless one happens to knock over the yogurt-catching tray under the machine — which I may have gotten the pleasure of doing. From my quick back-and-forth conversation at the register in addition to knocking over the tray, the staff was quite helpful and knew how to deal with the rush while maintaining a polite attitude.
What I enjoyed most about Go Greek was how the froyo made me feel after. As opposed to my usual post-froyo sugar rush, I felt refreshed, which was truly surprising. One of the reasons I love Go Greek is that it has so many subtle health benefits.
Go Greek Yogurt is packed with muscle-building proteins and digestion-friendly probiotics. It gives a perfect balance between low sodium and high potassium. It’s also lower in both sugar and carbohydrates than regular and “Greek-style” yogurts.
My total rounded up to about $9. However, my bowl was on the smaller side. My friend who I went with ended up paying around $11. You pay $1.35 per ounce, and, from what I noticed, the average price ranged from $7-$12. As a frozen yogurt usual, it seems a bit pricey for the amount you get. It feels fair due to all the health benefits, but I’m going to save my Go Greek trips as a once-in-a-while treat.
Go Greek Review
Summary
Go Greek is a once-in-a-while purchase. Their yogurt is tart and flavorful, and the wide range of toppings allows for customization. However, its high price makes it hard to be a usual yogurt spot. Although pricey, it is always worth it.
