The aroma of salty Tostitos, the sight of people doused in colorful body paint, and the sound of people excitedly cheering at their televisions — the big game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks took place on Feb. 1, 2015, in Glendale, Arizona.

According to CBS Sports, it was the first time in a decade that a team played in two consecutive Superbowl games. The Seahawks defeated the Broncos last year by a landslide, and this year were defeated by the Patriots by just four points.

The first quarter ended in a 0 – 0 tie. The two teams were still tied by the end of the first half, with a score of 14-14, as the Seahawks’ wide receiver Chris Matthews caught a touchdown just before half time.

Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot performed at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show. Perry performed some of her most popular hits, including “Firework,” which debuted in 2010, and recent hit, “Dark Horse,” released in 2014.

Kravitz joined in to perform a duet with Perry, getting the crowd even more wild and pumped up for the next half of the game. To top off the musical portion of this year’s game, Missy Elliot made an appearance as a surprise guest and performed her 2002 hit singles “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It.”

To start off the third quarter, placekicker Steven Hauschka kicked a 27 yard field goal, steering the Seahawks to a 17 – 14 lead.

The third quarter ended with a bang when Seahawks’ quarterback Russel Wilson made a three-yard pass to wide receiver, Doug Baldwin, boosting his team up to a 24-14 lead.

With just two minutes left in the game, Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady passed to wide receiver Julian Edelman. The play brought the New England Patriots to a four-point lead on the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle managed to recover and rush down to New England’s goal line with less than 30 seconds left in the game. The Seahawks had at least three shots to run the ball into the end zone, but tried a pass on the first down that was intercepted by cornerback Malcom Butler of the Patriots.

The Patriots went on to beat the Seahawks 28-24.

In a survey sent to the Archer community, 85 out of 162 students and teachers predicted the Seattle Seahawks would win, and 55 predicted the New England Patriots would win.

Twenty-one out of 162 students and teachers said they watch the Super Bowl for the game, 54 for the commercials and 71 for both.
