Senior Michaela Purwin exhibits AP Studio Art: 3-D Design concentration
Michaela Purwin ’15 exhibited her work from her AP Studio Art class on May 5 during X-Block. Purwin repurposed ordinary objects and designed dresses out of materials like books, cards and tickets.
“I wanted to do something with ordinary objects — stuff that is normally overlooked — and turn it into something that you have to look at,” Purwin said.
Purwin displayed eight pieces. Each piece was accompanied by photographs of the dress on a model. Purwin used a variety of materials including balloons, rope and fishnet, playing cards, shoelaces, trash bags, raffle tickets, glass and book pages.
“I did a few [pieces] that didn’t work out. I tried to do one with straws and it just didn’t happen so I threw it away and started over, it’s just part of the process,” Purwin said on her artistic process.
Purwin will be attending Parsons The New School for Design in the fall to study Fashion Design.
