Finally, the time of year that all music and festival lovers wait for: Coachella, a three-day music festival that takes place in Indio, California, and has become a rite of passage for many Southern California high school students.Two stages and three tents in a huge field feature various artists throughout the days and nights.

This year Coachella was divided up into two separate weekends, I was able to experience Coachella’s first weekend. The first day of the weekend, Friday, was cold, windy, and rainy. This weather was insanely strange for Coachella (considering it’s usually 90 degrees or higher). However, this weather didn’t stop anyone.

Friday night featured many artists, including Girls, The Black Keys, Swedish House Mafia, and The Arctic Monkeys. Friday and Saturday were also fantastic. There is nothing like the lineup of The Shins, Bon Iver, and Radiohead all taking place at the main stage.

For Bon Iver and Radiohead, I pushed my way through the immense crowd to be able to lean against the railing for my two favorite bands. Before each band went on there was shoving and screaming, but while each artist was playing, the only sounds that could be heard were people singing along. It was completely surreal.

Justin Vernon, lead singer from Bon Iver, was completely mesmerizing. He opened up with the song “Perth,” which is the first song on their newest self-titled album.

The largest noise coming from the crowd occurred when Justin Vernon switched guitars to a special guitar, which he only used when he wrote the album “For Emma” in 2008, to play the song “Skinny Love.”

As Bon Iver wrapped up and Radiohead came on stage, the crowd danced along with Thom Yorke, Radiohead’s lead singer. I had been waiting since the fourth grade to see Radiohead live, and seeing them Saturday night was an unforgettable experience.

Sunday’s temperature heated up, and everyone got to enjoy excellent performances by Florence and the Machine, First Aid Kit, The Weeknd, Calvin Harris and the most anticipated artists of the night – Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg and had a special surprise for everyone.

Not only did Eminem come out and join them, but the performance featured a hologram of Tupac singing “California Love.”

As if the crowd wasn’t already thrilled to see Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, the hologram of Tupac astonished everyone. I watched my Twitter and Facebook newsfeed explode.

Though the next Coachella weekend(s) will take place in a little less than a year, music lovers already are looking forward to yet another weekend full of music and fun.
