This season, Archer’s Varsity Tennis team broke new records. Doubles partners Mari Goldberg ’17 and Sara Rabinowitz ’17 were named first in the Liberty League.

Goldberg and Rabinowitz started playing as a doubles partners towards the end of the season. They were both surprised to see how well they worked together on the court, which led to their victories.

Rabinowitz has been playing tennis on and off for around 11 years, and Goldberg has been playing for around nine years.

“It feels great because all of our hard work has paid off,” Goldberg said.

“I definitely would have never expected this get this title in a million years. It just shows that hard work, dedication and playing with your heart really pays off and leads to great things,” Rabinowitz said.

“Varsity tennis broke new ground this past season, winning the school’s first-ever doubles league championship and making an appearance in the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs,” an email sent to the school from Athletics and Health Coordinator Marlee Rice read.

The team also hit an all-time high this season with their new records as well as team bonding.

“Archer’s varsity team is especially close and we always support each other while playing tennis, while also keeping the game fun and lighthearted. Overall, I had an amazing time playing with everyone on the team and we had a phenomenal season,” Izzy Simanowitz ’18, a teammate of both Rabinowitz and Goldberg, said.

“I always look forward to the bonding experience of being together with the team whether it’s at practices or matches. We are all constantly looking out for one another, never failing to offer support,” Rabinowitz said.

This was the first season that Goldberg has played doubles.

“I learned so much from this experience because playing doubles was new for me. I learned that communication and a relationship with your partner are crucial because you depend on each other and have to be in sync,” Goldberg said.

“In addition to becoming a stronger player, I have most importantly learned a lot about myself. I now have reset words to bring up my energy when playing in order to create a fresh and positive state of mind,” Rabinowitz said.

The whole team learned a lot from the pair as well.

“Mari and Sara were such amazing partners to have on the team and always kept the team positive and full of energy,” Simanowitz said.

“It’s really cool to see a group of girls pull together through tough practices to show such a stellar result. It’s amazing to get to call this team my team,” Varsity Co-Captain Sarah Boehm ’16 said.

Goldberg and Rabinowitz have shared a love for tennis for years.

“I love how involved tennis is. In matches and tournaments, I meet so many different girls from all over California and I usually end up making friends with them. I also love how mental the game is. I don’t need to depend on physical strength to succeed,” Goldberg said.
