On Jan. 28 the Archer debate team competed in their third tournament at Culver City High School. This was an “open tournament,” meaning that a novice team could compete against a varsity team.

Adler and Torres received second place within the entire tournament, while Wilson and Yamada placed third. The rankings were based on how many speaker points each duo received.

“I am so proud of how our team did,” Adler, the team captain, said.

Lishack and Griffiths placed seventh out of the whole tournament.

Adler was especially proud of this duo because they are novice debaters.

Both Lishack and Griffiths along with Richards and Grant received medals.

“I think that the novice girls were really well prepared and their performance shows that they were ready to go into varsity. I am so impressed by how everyone did this weekend and I am looking forward to our next few tournaments,” Adler said.

Overall, the team received second place in Debate Sweepstakes. This means that they had the second greatest number of wins.

“It was a win for Archer overall,” Adler said.

The debate team’s next tournament will be at The University of California, Berkeley over Presidents’ Day weekend. They will be competing in the Berkeley Invitational Tournament.
