On Feb. 1, Beyoncé’s pregnancy photo became the most liked photo on Instagram, receiving over 10 million likes from fans across the globe. However, this caused Coachella Music Festival goers to anxiously await the news if Beyoncé, pregnant with twins, would continue to headline the show.

Located in Indio California, the second largest North American music festival venue can hold approximately 99,000 occupants and took only three hours to completely sell out. According to Billboard, in 2016, Coachella grossed over $84 million dollars over two weekends.

In the beginning of January, Coachella revealed that Radiohead, Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar would be headlining the music festival.

“This is my first year going to Coachella, and I am a huge fan of Beyoncé, so I was really excited to see her perform because she is so charismatic on stage, ” Sophomore Ella Tollman said.

However, due to Beyonce’s pregnancy, Coachella released the following statement on their Facebook page: “Following the advice of her doctors to keep a less rigorous schedule in the coming months, Beyoncé has made the decision to forgo performing at the 2017 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.”

On Feb. 28, Lady Gaga confirmed via twitter that she will be replacing Beyonce at Coachella Weekend one and two on Saturday’s April 15 and 22.

I think Lady Gaga will be a lot of fun and more entertaining because the way she performs gets the audience involved more, ” Alice Grainge ’17 said.

Gaga will be the first female headliner to perform at Coachella since Björk in 2007. Other performers on Saturday include Bon Iver, Future and Martin Garrix.

Gaga released her most recent album on Oct. 21, 2016, and sold 170,000 copies in the first week. She also performed in the Super Bowl halftime show, where 117.5 millions viewers tuned in to watch on Fox.

“I am upset Lady Gaga is replacing Beyonce because Beyoncé is irreplaceable and Lady Gaga does not live up to Beyoncé’s standards,” Olivia Woolf ’19 said. “It makes me upset Coachella would choose her rather than the same type of performance, like Rihanna or Justin Bieber. Lady Gaga disappeared for a while and I don’t think her new album or old albums has Coachella vibes to it.”
