Varsity fall sports celebrate Senior Night
With the fall sports season coming to an end, Archer’s varsity volleyball, tennis and cross country teams honored their senior players.
Senior Night is a tradition at Archer where underclassmen celebrate senior team members during the team’s final home game. The other members on the team give speeches and gifts to honor each seniors.
Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team played against league rivals, Pacifica Christian on Oct. 18 for Senior Night. The final score was 3-1 with Archer taking home the win.
This year the varsity seniors honored were Rachael Boehm, Cydney Davis, Alex Feldman, Locke Luhnow, Macoy Ohlbaum, Cat Oriel and Danielle Roberts
“As a group on the court, we told each other: ‘Hey, come on like we can do this,'” Roberts said. “We are all in this for each other, and [in] the end we ended up on top. I’m very happy, but also very sad because this is my last year playing volleyball.”
The varsity team is currently playing in the CIF-SS Division 7 playoff. On Friday, Nov. 10 the team will face Foothill Tech at 4:30 p.m. at Cerritos College. This is the first time any Archer team has made it to the CIF Finals.
Tennis
The varsity tennis team honored their seniors — Rachel Ferrera, Elyse Pollack and Isabella Simanowitz — on Oct. 19 at Balboa Park.
“I have watched the [Senior] Nights for the past four years, and it was crazy how fast it became our Senior Night,” Ferrera said. “Standing beside all my teammates, some of the best friends I have made, I was thinking how I would love to do it all over again.”
In their match against Buckley, the Panthers came away victorious.
To celebrate the occasion, coach Paula Feignbaum decorated the courts in Archer’s colors, purple and green.
The varsity tennis team concluded their season on Nov. 1 after falling to Santa Fe High School in the CIF-SS Division 4 playoff. It was the first round of playoffs.
Archer ended with a 6-2 league record, going 6-8 overall.
Cross Country
The varsity cross country team led by the seniors Caitlin Mosch, Lily Horton and Sara Weitz held their Senior Night after League Finals at Cheviot Hills Park. The Nov. 1 celebration also honored team manger Maren O’Sullivan.
“Senior Night was really great this year,” Weitz, who has been on the team since 6th grade, said. “The team did a really great job preparing the speeches and making the seniors feel special.”
Archer ended in 3rd place in the Liberty League behind Pacifica Christian and Holy Martyrs. Sophomore Nicole Farmer led the team in the meet and came in fifth place overall.
“[Senior Night] was really nice because we ran really hard at the meet,” Weitz said. “It was a bit of a rough meet, [but afterwards] we all got to celebrate with some doughnuts. It was a really nice culmination to the season.”
The runners will continue their season at the CIF-SS meet this Saturday, Nov. 11.
