Over winter break, the varsity basketball team learned just how big California truly is. After six hours of driving from LA, the team made it to Concord, California to participate in the West Coast Jamboree Tournament.

From Dec. 26 to 30, the team played three games, ending the tournament with a 2-1 record. The Panthers ended in third place, and brought their overall record to 10-6.

“Our coach stresses how important it is for most players to come and travel to these tournaments because during these times is when the team bonds the most,” Danielle Roberts ’18 said in an email. “For four years of playing basketball for Archer, I have gone on all the trips. [Because of those trips] I felt so much closer to the girls on and off the court,”

According to senior Alex Feldman, the tournament was ‘huge’ and included multiple brackets.

The Panthers competed against schools from across California. Since the tournament was so big, games were played at multiple high schools. Archer played at Amador Valley High School and Ygnacio Valley High School.

The team won their first game against Willits High School 59-44. But Archer lost their second game against Emery High School. The score was 49-41 game. The Panthers ended the tournament by winning 44-33 against Kennedy High School.

Caitlin Chen ’19, a captain, and Roberts received All-Tournament awards. This honor recognized their performances throughout the tournament.

“Getting All-Tournament was thanks to my team and my coach,” Roberts said. “Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to play to my [highest] potential [and] to receive an award. I can’t wait for the rest of the season.”
