Lean In Partners with Getty Images to Support Female Talent

By Haley Jamieson

Lean In, inspired by Sheryl Sandberg’s book, is an organization that supports the female empowerment by hosting small groups, called circles, that meet monthly. In early February Lean In began a partnership with Getty Images—a company that licenses various types of digital media.

Getty Images gave Lean In an Editorial Grant and a Creative Grant.  The mission of this partnership is to “develop imagery for a nonprofit [that Getty Images] choose to support which focuses on issues related to empowering women, girls, their families and communities.” The images are taken of women and girls from all ages, ethnicities, socioeconomic statuses and jobs to showcase healthy home environments and women in charge of their own paths.

Editorial Grants “celebrate and support independent photojournalism” by awarding $10,000 to five photojournalists to help them pursue their career.  They will also grant an extra $10,000 to a photograph displaying an empowered women through their partnership with Lean In.

Creative Grant  “support[s] nonprofits which do not currently have the resources to employ photographers or filmmakers,” but understand that the media is essential to further their project. Lean In and Getty Images will award an extra $20,000 to a photographer and creative agency who produce images relating to “empowering women, girls, their families and communities.”

The collection was posted in early February and features over 2,500 photographs showing contemporary female leadership. Many images in the media objectify women, but this collection was created to break those molds. By breaking those molds, it opens up more opportunities for women to be seen for their talents and not their looks.
