Freshman August Kohn sells seniors Ruby Williams and Lexi Tooley baked goods for the GEG bake sale fundraiser in support of the LÍde foundation. The bake sale was one of multiple stations in the courtyard for the International Day of the Girl celebration on Oct. 11.

On Wednesday, Oct. 6 Hermanas Unidas presented during Upper School Community Connections. The affinity club introduced their executive board, mission statement and theme of the year. They also spotlighted members of the community in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month which lasts from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

Graphics such as this hang around campus and were posted on StuCo social media platforms, informing students of the revived StuCo event. First Fridays is a celebration held in the courtyard on the first Friday of the month. During these celebrations, a table is set up with free food, StuCo plays music and everyone dances.

Joe Feldman wrote Grading for Equity: What It Is, Why It Matters, and How It Can Transform Schools and Classrooms in 2018 in response to the inconsistent grading amongst educators and its implications on student performance. Every summer, the Archer faculty read a book relevant to their professional development both as teachers and learners. The easiest thing to do is fail students or give them A’s, Assistant Head of School Karen Pavliscak said. It’s the nuances in between.

The testing program, previously done with Laboratory Services of America and now with Innovative Health Diagnostics, is one measure taken to limit community exposure to COVID-19. On Oct. 6, the community will be transitioning to weekly COVID-19 testing for all students, faculty and staff as opposed to the biweekly testing for vaccinated community members.

Annual Festival of Dance: Overcoming obstacles and finding hope
The annual Senior Art Exhibition is a culmination of a year’s worth of work, which gives senior artists a chance to share their work with the entirety of the Archer community. This year, each senior art student created a website to display their efforts as well as the chance to display a single piece in the Eastern Star Gallery amongst their peers.

Cassie is at a local bar waiting to go home, pretending to be intoxicated, with yet another man who intends to take advantage of her. Upper school students watch a performance from the musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, on May 6 via Zoom. The students had the chance to preview the upper school musical and purchase tickets for streaming the following night at 7 p.m. “I was really, really impressed with how the whole production came together…and I am proud of the hard work put into it as well,” Isabelle Verdery (’23), who was cast as Janet, said.

Members of the cheerleading team train on the back field, learning new skills and the basics of cheer. In the future, the team could support Archer athletes at their competitions as well as compete in competitions of their own. Speaking to the environment thus far, Director of Athletics Kim Smith said the team was enjoying themselves. Ive been out there, and it looks like theyre enjoying themselves, learning the skills and, you know, putting them together, Smith said. Theyre meeting new friends and it seems like a positive, great outlet for them.

Just keep running: Varsity cross country embarks on season with CIF in mind
In this picture Senior Destiny Morado is posing with her match partner sophomore Alex Martin. The amount of support we provide for each other, whether its on or off the court, trying to help somebody academically, is incredible and heartwarming, Morado said. Were always going to be there to support each other and thats definitely something that I love most about our team.

The graphic illustrates the two worlds I feel that I have battled since coming to Archer. As when I am riding on the bus towards school, which is a different environment than I was ever used to, it felt as I entered a second world when I walked up the schools front steps.

As women, we have a moral obligation to advocate for our reproductive rights. The Heartbeat Act of Texas reminds us that they are not promised. No matter what, remember that it is your body and it is your choice.

Being a teenage girl thats also an athlete is challenging for body image. Expectations of strength and performance in one part of life, and societal pressures of thin bodies and skipped meals in the other. We must learn to love our bodies and appreciate the fuel we give them.
