Self-Love Isn’t Selfish S1E2 – Heroin chic: Idealistic view on drugs through body dysphoria

On this episode of Self-Love Isn’t Selfish, host Olivia Hallinan-Gan (‘26) speaks about her experience seeing drugs on social media and the way it has affected her view of her body. She explores the many ways drugs are advertised to teen girls in the media and how it perpetuates severe body image issues.

Olivia Hallinan-Gan joined The Oracle as a staff reporter in 2022. In 2023 she became Copy Editor of Hestia's Flame and a podcaster on The Oracle. Her podcast centers around self-love and self-care.  She is on Dance Leadership Team, on Archer's swim team, in chess club, a member of the Ambassador Leadership Team, an editor on Hestia's Flame, on the robotics team and a part of the  Artemis Center. In her free time, you can see her playing with her dog, reading and cooking for her family.

    Social media often portrays curated versions of reality, and aspiring to unrealistic standards can indeed have harmful effects on mental health. Embracing one’s uniqueness is essential for overall well-being.
