The 2015-2016 school year marks a change for what used to be known just as “the yearbook” but is now “Hestia’s Flame.”

Yearbook adviser Luke Robertson approached co-editors-in-chief Alyssa Downer and Madina Mohammed (both ’17) about creating a name to properly identify the Archer yearbook as well as help rebrand it as a whole.

“All of the Archer publications have a name that people identify them by, so the yearbook wanted a name to identify us and go with the Greek theme,” Downer said.

During their conversation, they went through a long list of different Greek gods and goddesses and found Hestia. Hestia is the goddess of the hearth; she keeps the home and the flame alive within a community.

“We felt like Archer is our home no matter how long you have been here, and this is a Goddess who represents the idea of having a home at Archer,” Downer said.

The three wanted to have a goddess who is about warmth and community and they believe that Hestia embodies that idea.

“I really like the flame,”Robertson said. “There has been a lot of talk this year about what it means to carry the torch and the idea of passing on the torch. You don’t do something to pass it on, you keep it and use that fire and spread that idea and that passion. So, carrying the torch or carrying the flame became the theme this year.”

Yearbook distribution takes place on May 23. If a student did not purchase a yearbook, there is a limited supply of available yearbooks she can purchase on her One Card for $100.
