Seventy girls, one grade, the Class of 2017 — Meghan Marshall ’17 opened her senior art show, entitled “Goddesses of 2017,” on Tuesday, May 16, during lunch,

For her final project, Marshall chose to showcase photographs of her peers, continuing a tradition began last year by Kayry Gonzalez ’16.

“I wanted to capture that individual spark within each and every one of my classmates,” Marshall wrote in her artist statement.

Marshall is passionate about photography because of the freedom and confidence it provides. She notes that photography has had a major impact on her.

“It allowed me to give shape to my voice, my imagination and ideas,” Marshall wrote.

She also perceives the art form as a personal space where she is able to control her world view and build her own reality.

“I like to think of this space as a dreamland,” Marshall wrote.

When Marshall first came to Archer in sixth grade, she saw the seniors as confident and graceful.

“They were like goddesses,” she said.

Now, looking at her own senior class, Marshall sees a group of inspiring, vibrant and talented people.

“The class of 2017,” she wrote, “is truly a force.”
