Rockin’ around the Christmas tree: Six songs to get you in the holiday mood
December 19, 2020
As the holiday season is here and Christmas is fast approaching, I wanted to share my favorite holiday and Christmas tunes. In general, these songs hold a special place in my heart. I will never stop listening to each and everyone of them because they are full of good cheer and happiness. I hope I spark a little reminder in your mind to add these to your holiday playlist. Enjoy!
1. “All I want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey
This is definitely one of my favorite holiday songs. This iconic song has been with me since the day I can remember and every single Christmas morning I would come downstairs to hear this song playing as I open my presents under the tree. Throughout the whole month of December, you’ll hear this song on every radio station. This song, in general, always brings me so much excitement for the holidays.
2. “Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber
Since 2011, I have been listening to this song every holiday. “Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber brings back so many memories of when I was a little girl dancing in my room and drinking hot chocolate. “Mistletoe” makes me have such a warm feeling inside because it is a song I can sing with my friends and family. Whenever I hear this song, the melody makes me want to sing my heart out. My favorite line will always be “It’s the most beautiful time of the year/ Lights fill the streets, spreading so much cheer/ I should be playing in the winter snow/ but ima be under the mistletoe.”
3. “Winter Things” by Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande’s Christmas album always gets me in the spirit. This song is one of my favorites to listen to on a cold day with some warm tea or hot chocolate. The amount of happiness and joy this song brings me is amazing. I love the line, “Just imagine that we’re laughing in my cabin/ chilling by the fireside/ Even though this sun is blasting/ We can be wherever if we visualize.” This part in the song makes it so much more relatable because if we visualize anything we can be anywhere we want to be during the Holidays.
4. “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms
My parents and I have always listened to this song every holiday. As a family, we love listening to Christmas music while we open our presents, and this song has been on repeat every single year. You can never go wrong with a jingle bell rock classic. The lyrics of the song set the whole mood in the room. The tone of the song is comforting to listen to because it has a smooth rhythm and the lyrics are simply joyful.
5. “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams
The title itself is a very accurate description of my feelings towards the holidays. Holidays to me, of course, are the most wonderful time of the year. This song always gets me up in the morning to notice that it is Christmas time and to celebrate the blessings and people in our life. The tone of this song is special to me because it has a cheerful, warm melody. Many people can come together with this song and enjoy each other’s presence.
6. “Hot Chocolate” by Tom Hanks from “The Polar Express”
I just had to put this song into the top six. As a child, watching the iconic movie “The Polar Express” was a tradition in my household. Every single Christmas we would watch “The Polar Express” and eat breakfast together. The memories that come with this song are radiant. I love how this song has stuck with me for so many years — it will never go out of tune.
I hope reading this list has given you a spark to download these songs to your playlist or share them with your family and friends. I love these songs for dancing around my room and for just enjoying the cheerfulness it gives me every day listening to them. Holidays are a time for you to relax and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Have a great holiday and enjoy your time off because you deserve it.
