The Voice of Democracy class created an inspirational video to spread a message of optimism for the future of the country.

Throughout the semester the students, led by teacher Lucy Pinkwater, learned about the role of the individual in the functions of the U.S. government.

Through their study of voter behavior, the class examined the possible causes of low participation among the voting age population.  They found the statistics “eye-opening” and wondered why so many people who can vote, don’t vote.

With the backdrop of the government shut-down this past fall, the students said they realized how easy it is for citizens to feel apathetic about the government. However, they also realized how important the role of the individual is. Students explained they decided a message of optimism might be a way to encourage young voters to participate, spread awareness and use their voices to make change.

The students claimed they began to recognize that Archer is a reason to be hopeful because the girls here are not afraid to stand up for their beliefs.

This video is meant to encourage the Archer community to participate in government at every level. They believe that even when you don’t have a vote, you still have a voice.
