Anime Club Celebrates Japanese Culture

The Archer School has many student-run organizations full of individuals who share common hobbies and interests. Archer's Anime Club is one such organization. The club has 21 registered members, including eight seniors, five juniors, one sophomore, one freshman and six middle schoolers.

The club meets on Mondays in Dr. Linsley’s room. Recently, the club has enjoyed watching “×××ホリック” (XXX Holic), “男子高校生の日常” (The Daily Lives of High School Boys) and “神様はじめました” (The God Has Come).

The members are considering watching a live action adaptation of an extremely famous anime called 黒執事 (Black Butler), but their current obsession is “進撃の巨人” (Attack on Titan).

The Oracle asked members to give their opinions on the club and on anime generally. Member Veronica Richardson ’14 related, “I love デスノート(Death Note) because a cursory viewing of the anime will not always reveal the moral dilemmas at the heart of the series, but it is these subtleties which make the anime itself so intriguing.”

Anime club member Gloria Ryoo ’14 commented, “I think that there should be more awareness about the various forms of entertainment, music and art in different cultures—Anime Club is just the start.”
