One last ride: Seniors spend the day at Disneyland

The class of 2026 embraced their final ride at Disneyland Park on Wednesday, May 20. Seniors arrived at Archer on their morning buses, decked out in Disney swag. Some wore Mickey Mouse ears, Disney character T-shirts and festive character backpacks. A day trip to Disneyland is a memorable senior tradition, signifying a final rush of childhood nostalgia, said senior Lucy Kaplan.

“I took a handful of my friends on the Haunted Mansion, which is my favorite ride in the park,” Kaplan said. “A lot of them haven’t been in a while, if at all, and so it was really fun to get to share my favorite ride with all of them.”

Liana Awai (‘29) shows her ear with her hearing aid attatched. Hearing aids amplify sound for those with partial hearing loss to hear sound more clearly. “At first I was hesitant because I just didn't want to get hearing aids, but I am so glad I did,” Awai said. “I felt proud that I could finally hear and understand and listen.”
Being deaf or hard of hearing: Barriers, support, lived experience
Fashion Alley in Downtown Los Angeles does not bustle with as many people as it used to. Recent ICE raids have created fear and left more store owners without customers. Store owner Santiago Rodriguez has felt the impact of lower sales. "Well, people are scared," Rodriguez said. "When people notice immigration around these places — well, people, more than anything, in businesses and small businesses, people stop coming."

Senior show 'Biomimicked' celebrates students' artistic evolution
One last celebration
Archer’s varsity softball team poses for a photo on Senior Night when they played their game against Brentwood School. The only senior on the team, Cleo Wilson, said that while the season has come with many challenges, she has been able to remain positive by remembering her purpose. “Remembering it’s supposed to be fun has been my main mindset throughout the season,” Wilson said, “and I’m glad that has been able to show through my energy and positivity.”

Melinda Wang joined The Oracle as a staff reporter in 2022, became a senior reporter in 2023 and served as the multimedia editor her senior year. As a senior, she took art classes and was invested in community service outside of Archer. When she wasn’t doing homework, you could find her listening to Lana Del Rey or taking photos. Melinda graduated in 2026.

Meredith Ho, Sports Editor
Meredith Ho joined Oracle in 2022, became a senior reporter in 2023 and served as sports editor from 2024-2026. She was on the Archer swim team, was a member of the Orchestra Leadership Team, and created a book highlighting immigration stories. In her free time, you could find her riding a bike and hanging out with her friends and family. Meredith graduated in 2026.
