Varsity basketball begins league play

Archer’s varsity basketball team began competing in league games on Thursday, Jan. 7. The team lost their first game 63-32 to Providence High School at Santa Monica College on the same day.

“They are one of the best teams in our league and I am excited to play them again [later this season],” Captain Marcela Riddick ‘16 said.

The team came back with a 58-5 win against New Roads at Santa Monica College Monday, Jan. 11.

“The 58-5 game allowed us to work together and get ready for our next game” Riddick wrote in an email to the school. 

The Panthers won 52-29 against Canoga Park at Luezinger High School in the Martin Luther King Jr. Private vs. Public Showcase Extravaganza on Saturday, Jan. 16.

“Junior Briana Johnson had 14 out of Archer’s 52 points against Canoga Park’s 29,” Riddick wrote.

The team won back to back games on Wednesday, Jan. 20 and Thursday, Jan. 21. against Environmental Charter and Trinity Classical; neither were league games. The team has been practicing at Brentwood’s campus to prepare for the games. They are currently 0-3 in league.
