As spring began to bloom, Archer varsity runners laced up their cleats and began their “exciting” season.

The varsity track and field season began practicing in February. Since Archer lacks regular facilities, the team practices at West L.A. College.

So far, the varsity team has competed in a series of invitationals such as the Redondo Nike Invitational and the Laguna Beach Trophy Invitational. Some students traveled to Stanford University over spring break to compete in the Stanford Invitational.

The Oracle sat down with senior leader Dominique White to learn more about this the team’s season thus far and their goals for the remainder of the year.

How is the season going so far?

Dominique White [DW]: I think the season is going really well. The team has been working hard and building strong bonds with each other. I feel like our team is really strong, and we have some passionate runners — so I am proud.

How does it feel to be a senior this year?

DW: It feels surreal to be a senior because I have been running since I was in seventh grade. So it is crazy to think how long track has been in my life and what I’m going to do without it next year. I am enjoying everyday I go.

What are your goals as a team this year?

DW: Our goals as a team are to come first in league, which I believe can actually happen this year, and to be a supportive family. So far, I think those goals are being met.

Why do you think track is important for Archer girls?

DW: I think track is important for Archer girls because it teaches you how to be responsible but also how to work in a team. A lot of time, people think track is an individual sport — which to some extent is true – but what you do as an individual also impacts your team. You have to be able to support one another whether you win or lose.
