THE ARCHITECTURE of Archer itself is beautiful. The building was built by William Mooser in 1931, and is currently listed as a Los Angeles Cultural/Historic monument. THE SPIRIT CUP has been an Archer tradition since the 2009-2010 year with Georgina Stage ’10 as ASB President. Back then, Grace Gottwald ’10 constructed the Spirit Cup. Ms. Warner says, “The cup that Georgina and Grace created lasted as the Spirit Cup for a few years, but then tragedy struck. In a moment of ‘whoops!’, the Spirit Cup slid out of its protective plexiglass case and crashed to the floor. Though the cup itself was intact, the base was shattered.” In the 2011-2012 school year, Susie Perez ’13 constructed the next Spirit Cup in ceramics class, our first ceramic cup. Although this cup is still intact, Valentina Sallas ’15 created the current Spirit Cup shown above. Through all of the different Spirit Cups, one tradition has remained the same: the grade with the most spirit points gains possesion of the cup and bragging rights over the whole school. THE ARTEMIS STATUE sits in the far right hand corner of the front lawn underneath the shade of the trees. The Archer’s bow, arrow, and wrists have been skillfully covered with yarn, or as Ms. Warner would say, “yarn bombed” by none other than the Archer Knit Wits. THE MAYPOLE is put up on May 1 every year by the senior class, and sixth graders weave the ribbons together in the Maypole Dance on Moving Up Day. The tradition of the Archer maypole dates back to the days when the women from the Eastern Star home inhabited these halls and an anonymous neighbor erected it for them each year. DOGS have been an important part of the Archer community since the very beginning. Teachers may bring their dogs to school on a regular basis, which creates an amazingly unusual environment for students, teachers, and dogs alike. THE LEGEND OF THE (NOT SO) HAUNTED BATHROOM has been passed down from class to class for many years. The bathroom was said to house ghosts. The purple and white tiles, the old pieces of artwork covered with canvas sheets, and the mysterious mannequins in the bathroom gave off an eerie feeling. Just last year, the “haunted bathroom” was completely remodeled. The mannequins were replaced by automatic sinks and the artwork replaced by huge mirrors with plenty of good lighting. It would seem as though the legend of the bathroom would draw to a close because of the renovations, and yet, most of the older grades still call it the “haunted bathroom.” Photographer: Syd Stone

THE BELL has an inscription that states, “Dedicated to Dr. Diana Meehan and Gary David Goldberg with gratitude from the girls of Archer now and forever September 5,1995.” The bell symbolizes Archer’s gratitude for their part in founding our school. Photographer: Sydney Stone ’16
