Green tea and fly genes: Junior researches effect of Epigallocatechin Gallate in fruit fly cancer treatment

Junior Finley Vincent has been conducting scientific research at Archer since middle school. This year in their Advanced Study Research class, they researched the uses of Epigallocatechin Gallate — a natural chemical often found in green tea and matcha — in treating cancer-causing oxidation in fruit flies. Vincent presented their findings at the STEM Symposium on Saturday, May 17.

Store owner Santiago Rodriguez has felt the impact of lower sales. "Well, people are scared," Rodriguez said. "When people notice immigration around these places — well, people, more than anything, in businesses and small businesses, people stop coming."
