1. Choose a leadership quote and in a short paragraph explain how it applies to your “style” of leadership and why.

When people talk, listen completely.” – Ernest Hemingway

This quote really spoke to me because I think that it really applies to how I look at leadership. To me, leadership is being able to listen to everyone and combine all those ideas to make a product. People really respond to someone who can acknowledge everyone’s opinion and make the best executive decision. That is the type of leader that I want to be and there are so many opportunities for me on Student Council to fulfill this role. Student Council relies on the the student body, and their job is to maximize the community’s voice and make sure they are heard.

2. As a student council member, what important goals would you have for Student Council? For Archer?

I think that one of my main goal regarding Student Council is to maintain and foster the inclusive community that exists. I want to make Student Council events a place where anyone can have fun no matter how you identify. Sometimes the people who are not afraid who participate and show their voice can overshadow those who are not as open with their ideas. I really want to make sure that everybody’s voice is heard and everyone feels they can make a difference. Archer is such a special place and I really want to take Student Council to a bigger scale and team up with other organizations like Honor Council and Community Service. Adding a component from other clubs to our events can really foster a united community who wants to help each other succeed.

3. What are your plans for increasing school spirit and student participation at Archer?

My plans for increasing school spirit is to really focus on inclusivity. I think that one thing that the Archer girls love is when the faculty also participates in events, so I really want to include them as well. One idea that I had was to put the faculty in the competition for spirit points. They are already a huge competitor in some of the activities and seem to be very invested in winning just like the Archer girls.

4. What role(s) do you think Student Council should play at Archer? Is Student Council currently fulfilling that role? If not, what changes do you propose to make it happen?

I think that Student Council’s role at Archer is very simple: to be the leaders of the school. The people who are elected are chosen by the student body because the community thinks that they represent them well. That is one of the biggest honors that can be given at a school. Taking the student council position to heart and utilizing every opportunity possible is a very important aspect of the job. I definitely think that Student Council is fulfilling its role especially this past year. In the past, some members took the position for granted and did not put much effort into it, but now that more people are interested, members realize that they need to really show the school that they are working hard. However, I always think that there is room for improvement. This past year was just the start of a new Student Council that is going to have a bigger presence on campus and in the community’s lives in the future. A change I would make in order to maximize this presence is to really make people accountable if they are missing events or cannot setup/ cleanup so that everyone can fulfill their role on Student Council.

5. Why do you want to be on Student Council, really?

Student Council makes me genuinely happy. When I am doing something for the school, I feel that I am making a difference and really putting my voice out there. Student Council has so much ability to make a change and that is such an incredible opportunity. Being chosen by your community to fulfill this role is something that makes me so proud and honored. The people who are elected are hard working and know how to be efficient unlike anyone else. That is such an amazing group to be a part of especially at Archer.
