The Archer varsity team huddles between points. The team played against Foothill Tech in CIF-SS Division 7 Finals on Nov. 10 at Cerritos College.

Panther suits, purple posters and screams filled the Cerritos College gym on Nov. 10. It’s a day that will go down in Archer history. For the first time ever, the Panthers won a CIF-SS title.

The varsity volleyball team defeated Foothill Technology to claim the CIF-SS Divison 7 Final. The Panthers won 3-1 and will now continue on to the state meet to face the northern champion.

“Everyone on our team had a huge role in and impact on making Archer history this past weekend. I could not be prouder of every single one my teammates,” Locke Luhnow ’18 said. “I will forever cherish [this team].”

On the way to the championship, Archer defeated Heritage Christian, Yucca Valley, Morro Bay and Lancaster High Schools

“During almost every timeout, Coach Lainey [Gera] would always tell us that we need to play for each other,” Danielle Roberts ’18 said. “I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we can truly trust one another. We love each other so much that we’d do anything to win. Honestly, [the game] still feels like a dream.

The Panthers’ current record is 23-7 overall.

“Now heading into state, I feel that this win and other wins against tough teams have truly motivated us,” Roberts said. “It’s made us see what we are capable of as a team when we have fun playing and play for ourselves and our hard working coaches.”
